It all starts from an idea, and snowballs into the digital sphere, through a machine, onto a physical material, given a lot of hand-embellished love, and what do you get? Magic.
Being in the fashion industry has taught me not only to be resilient to competition, but the importance of keeping things unique to set you apart from everyone else. Given my artistic spine, that wasn’t an easy feat— I overthink things too much sometimes, and my thoughts would just conceptualise into its own different chapters that I’d somehow have to organise in its own cubby holes in a procrastinatedly (is that a word?) long timeline. I wasn’t sure what kind of designer I wanted to be, but one thing for sure was that, I LOVED textiles, and I LOVED shiny stuff.
The combination isn’t new. You’ve seen it since Chanel was in diapers and even until today when big names put numbers of these kind out and it would make mine look like some kindergartener’s work. I haven’t really been consistent with this style, some collections I would not be using it at all; however, one thing is for sure— that is every time I get the chance to do it, I LOVED every single moment.
I think I started to notice how detrimental having embellishment on my artwork is when I started digitally drawing on my iPad. I don’t want to say my artwork is shit without it, but it adds a different layer and texture to what I would already consider glamorous. It downplays the intensity of each piece by giving the viewer a new challenge to decipher— what is what? After all, it is damn beautiful.
